Two Milwaukee Road SD40-2s lead an eastbound freight train across Peedee Viaduct in Idaho's northern panhandle on July 12, 1979. The bridge is between Plummer and St. Maries, part of the "gap" that was never electrified on the railroad s main line to the Pacific. Today the St. Maries River Railroad operates this portion of the line—a rarity, since most of the route was abandoned in 1980. Photograph by John F.
