Milwaukee Road Lives! Day in and day out, a pair of nondescript first generation diesels go about switching Union Pacific's Salt Lake City Intermodal Terminal west of downtown. Terminal Switching Services SD10 #550 is a veteran of the bygone Milwaukee Road. EMD built it new as an SD7 for the Milwaukee in Oct. 1953. Shop forces rebuilt it as 1500 horsepower SD10 in 1974. By 1985 it would be merged into the Soo Line, and later it worked for both the Dakota Minnesota & Eastern and the Indiana Railroad. Celebrating 60 years of service, the 550 continues to serve the rail industry classifying intermodal trains for destinations both east and west of Salt Lake City.
