| Goal: 165 MPH!!! Note the long string of arching sparks along the wires of the yet to be rebuilt catenary suspension. Amtrak ran it's Acela Express in a series of high speed test runs between 10:30 PM Monday night through 2:30 AM Tuesday morning in preparation for anticipated revenue service at 160 mph in the near future. This was the last of 7 runs test runs which reached an unverified speed of 160 mph. Additional tests were later ran in DE/MD nearly reaching an unverified 170 mph. Further test followed in MA and RI. I'll tell ya, the headlight was not a pin point of light very long during approach. |
