Remarks & Notes
Spokane Portland & Seattle No. 700, a 4-8-4 built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1938, steals the show at the Oregon Rail Heritage Center in Portland, Oregon. The SP&S 700 was assigned to work in passenger service from Portland, Oregon along the Columbia River Gorge to Spokane, Washington until 1956. In 1958 it was placed on display at Oaks Park in Portland. By 1990, it was returned to service and maintained by the all-volunteer Pacific Railroad Preservation Association. Stablemate Oregon Railroad & Navigation No. 197, a Baldwin product of 1905, undergoes a restoration to service by the all-volunteer Friends of the OR&N 197.
