Million Dollar Fill - A seagull flies above a dual mode locomotive as it pushes across the 1,000 ft. long Matawan Creek Embankment. Completed in 1953 the project took three years to complete and yes the price tag was a million dollars. It was a long term fix to replace a single track trestle that was quickly built years earlier after the original 1880's double-track trestle burned down in the latter half of the 1940s. The trees and vegetation were cut away from the embankment a few years ago so that maintenance work could be performed on the embankment. A look at that maintenance work and the remnants of the old trestle can be seen here
