The Union Pacific railroad has placed the C&NW "twins" in storage due to a down turn in traffic. The storage location just happens to be the Illinois Railway Museum. Seen here, the C&NW 8701 and the C&NW 8646 pose with the museum owned C&NW 6847. The two "-9"s are not owned by UP, they are under a lease agreement still. For the UP to "donate" the units to the museum, they would need to be purchased out right some how. These units are the last two original C&NW paint / lettered units on the UP system.
Not
just heritage schemes, not just commemorative schemes - this album is devoted to some of the world's most interesting paint schemes, past or present.
