The sun briefly shines late in the afternoon of April 22, 2001, after a good spring snowstorm blankets the mountains around Pinecliffe, Colorado. Amtrak’s eastbound California Zephyr approaches the west switch at Cliff surrounded by flocked trees looking more like winter than springtime.
