As a Union Pacific coal train slowly proceeds westbound on the main, an eastbound BNSF manifest freight meets the train in the siding at Tolland, Colorado, on October 22, 2012. Toward the middle of the photo are two faint lines in the trees—these are survey lines used when locating the 6.2-mile Moffat Tunnel built 1923-1927. A good deal of the survey work was done at night with powerful lights at both portals and at the mountain summit being used as targets. Trees in these sight lines were removed, hence the lines.
