Mixed Service: Prairie City to Baker. Running since well before dawn, Sumpter Valley's handsome Mikado #19 leaves a frosty white plume as she hauls an express mixed train east out of Prairie City, bound for Baker City. Well, almost. These days, the tracks no longer go to either place these days, but the ROW seen in this re-creation just west of McEwen is original, as is the power and at least some of the rolling stock. The present-day Sumpter Valley Railroad doesn't normally run in the winter time, but they made a special exception for this 2014 Lerro Productions Charter. As is pretty obvious from this image, Sumpter Valley is an excellent place for steam photography in cold weather.
