CSX 480 leads a train of hoppers under the iconic dual cantilevers at Quinnimont deep in the humid New River Gorge. Since this shot was taken, these signals, the last of their kind on the C&O mainline have been replaced as part of signal unification and modernization efforts across the country, taking with them another piece of Chessie history. The use of a wide angle lens intensifies the lean of the superelevated curve at the Quinnimont Wye, where freight & passenger trains alike roll through between 40 and 50 miles per hour on their trip between Clifton Forge and Russell.
