Remarks & Notes
Large clouds of steam begin to shoot out of the stack of the infamous "Queen of Steam," N&W 611, as it, along with Norfolk Southern's Southern Railway heritage unit and a Southern F-unit from the North Carolina Transportation Museum, get the day's excursion rolling out of Old Fort, NC, after a brief stop in downtown, bound for Asheville. Though the route is former Southern territory, 611 looks right at home navigating the mountains, winding streams, and sharp curves of North Carolina.
