Remarks & Notes
Late afternoon in Sandaoling is a magical hour for steam railway photography. On one such day in January 2016, JS8167 silhouette against the setting sun as the locomotive shoves an empty train away from the washery facility. This train will soon reach the summit of this line, and coast down into the opencast pit for another trainload of coal. Despite the sub-zero temperatures, the locomotive engineer has left the cab windows open, showing his own silhouette against the sun.
