With the communities of Valencia and Santa Clarita in the background Union Pacific's westbound Saugus local rattles the switch at CP Canyon just west of where SP's Saugus Station, the line's namesake, was located. Originally built by the Southern Pacific Railroad in 1876 to complete the link between northern and southern California, today the 'Saugus Line' is owned by Southern California's Metrolink as their Valley Subdivision. Power on the Saugus includes HLCX 1032 (of Illinois Central heritage) and UP 1374 (of Southern Pacific heritage). On the drawbar are three loads bound for Weyerhaeuser Building Supplies in Via Princessa, one load for Phillip's Plywood in San Fernando, and the Saugus' shoving platform SP 4612.
