About 30 miles east of Hastings, NE, a grain train led by BNSF 5503 got stuck in a snow drift near the town of Sutton. This delayed both Amtrak #5 and #6 by 14+ hours and held up the Chicago to Denver and Denver to Chicago "Z" trains, as well as every other manifest that was on the line that day.
This was the coldest day I've ever experienced, with a high of -30 degrees Fahrenheit and a sustained wind of 25 mph with gusts up to 60. Why was I out shooting? Who knows.
