216 empty hopper cars and four motors dash through the railroad town of Ashland, passing by the once busy freight depot at 15th Street enroute to Russell Yard for a crew change and fuel. Decades ago, numerous time freights, coal trains, road locals and passenger trains once called this line home, but in today's dying coal market, you're only guaranteed between 6 to 12 trains a day, including two passenger trains, four time freights, a few locals & the occasional coal movements to the Big Sandy & Logan subdivisions. The caboose to the right was purchased by the City of Ashland from SunCoke/Kanawha River Terminals a couple of years ago and is originally of Monongahela heritage, now turned Chessie by the city for display (sans coupler, of course)
