Remarks & Notes
Only Two Units? How Very Un-SP-Like!

A Southern Pacific westbound train arrives at the railroad's West Colton Yard in Bloomington, California, on January 5, 1980. SP SD40T-2 8529 and SSW SD45 9057 are bringing their train under the overpass for the Palmdale Cutoff, the junction of which is at this point on the Sunset Route. The Cutoff was built in the late 1960s to allow traffic from the east destined for northern California to by-pass the Los Angeles area, and was the SP's only line over nearby Cajon Pass.
