The steam era…2016. The steam era in the United States ended in the 1950s however even all these years later several traces can still be found, both lovingly preserved and quietly forlorn. Case in point, as former Santa Fe 4-8-4 3751 returns to her home at Amtrak's Redondo Junction facilities, having spent the morning at Metrolink's new Vincent Grade/Acton station platform, the big 1927 built Baldwin slips passed the remains of Southern Pacific's Taylor Yard locomotive facility. In the foreground one of two turntable pits, accompanied by round-house foundation and drop pits (out of view at right), can only recall the days when Taylor was alive with the hustle and bustle of steam. Thankfully groups like the SBRHS keep the steam era alive for those to enjoy deep into the 21st century.
