Passengers onboard today's southbound Coast Starlight were likely a bit worried as the passed through the small town of Santa Margarita looking up to a wall of smoke from the raging Cuesta Fire. Lucky for them, upon exiting the summit tunnel, they discovered the fire was located on the other side of the valley and would soon temporarily close down Highway 101 as crews worked tirelessly to stop the flames from jumping over. The fire would go on to burn 2,446 acres and require more than 1,800 firefighters from all over the state to work around the clock to have it 100% contained in a little more than a week.
