Snow fighting across a continuous ridge…… When selling his crossing of the Sierra to Central Pacific's 'Big Four' Theodore Judah promoted the idea that his railroad would follow a continuous ridge up to the summit of the Sierra Nevada. More than 150 years later his idea continues to serve Central Pacific's modern day successor, Union Pacific. Just above Emigrant Gap a westbound spreader set prepares to cross over the continuous ridge trading the Bear River Valley for the American River Valley. Kicking up snow on their way down to clear the balloon track at Fulda several days of fresh Sierra Cement still coat most of the Bear River Valley on a beautiful winter morning in the Sierra.
