The large stone building of Ospizio Bernina on 2256 meter a.s.l. in the early morning at 6.36 AM. The snow fighting crew from Poschiavo with the snow blower Xrot mt # 95403 and diesellocomotive Gmf 234 # 02 just passed for the first time and disappeared towards Bernina Lagalb to plow the right of way for the first train. Behind the third door from the left is the warm waiting room. The station restaurant on the right not opened yet. The photographer slept on the first floor on the far right. In front of the building, which was erected in 1925, you can see two bell apparatus. They are still operational and announce the next train, when it departed from Alp Grüm or Bernina Lagalb stations. In the past, every station in Switzerland had such bell apparatus, but they (nearly) all disappeared. By the way, the interlocking system (signals, switches etc.) of Ospizio is remote controlled from the dispatching center of the RhB in Landquart.
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
