Remarks & Notes
Weed city....no weeds now! D&RGW Locomotive #315 chugs slowly toward the 28-car siding located just south of Lobato Trestle on the run to Cumbres Pass. Back in 1970, this site was used as a movie set, and a small village of buildings were set up here. In the movie, the town was known as "Weed City" and although most of the structures are gone now, save for the remains of a movie prop water tank, the movie name has sort of stuck to this place. As can be seen in this early October view however, it hardly describes the place when the aspens are in full bloom.

The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad and the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad are all that remains of the legendary Denver & Rio Grande Western narrow gauge system. Here you'll find some of my favorites from these two beautiful railways.
