Remarks & Notes
Merry Christmas from Maine! WW&F Locomotive #9 negotiates the 3-way stub switch at the north end of the Sheepscot Yard, as she prepares to tie on to her train and begin the museum's annual Victorian Christmas Event. Each year, the volunteers of the WW&F Museum play host to the public, providing free train rides, visits with Santa Claus, horse-drawn sleigh/wagon rides, hot beverages and lots of activities for the kids. It's their way of saying thanks to the community for their support. Needless to say, the event has become rather popular, often drawing between 1000 and 1500 people, not only from the local area, but sometimes from great distances. In the past, the event was run on the Saturday before Christmas and was limited to just one day. This year, in an effort to reduce the wait times for the trains, the museum has elected to run the event on two successive Saturdays, beginning on December 16th and repeating it on the 23rd. The first weekend was quite successful. Although it was quite cold (15F) in the morning, the clear skies prevailed for most of the day, with very light winds. A fresh coating of snow helped put everyone in the mood for what we hope will be a White Christmas in New England.
