As a westbound manifest waits for a parade of westbound to clear ahead, a westbound coal empty proceeds to get another load of coal. With track maintenance everywhere on the line due to the frigid cold temperatures, it was often times for many trains a waiting game. On main one, a manifest sits and waits for several trains to pass by before being able to cross over at CP Ashton to get around maintenance working between CP Ashton and CP NQ (Nelson, IL). Many trains would spend time waiting at restricted signals due to this process. Ironically, waiting seemed to be the name for both railroads in the area as the BNSF had two trains tied down on the double main between Steward, IL and Flagg Center, IL. The first was tied down at the signal in Steward, IL and the second was tied down in the background of this photo at the signals just before the diamond in town.
