Sunset runby on the high plains. After a very tiring day of photography under mostly dark and overcast skies, this 2017 Lerro Productions Charter train had pretty much called it a day and was making the long, 40 mph trek back to Williams, AZ, when the clouds began to break. With signs that the sun might drop beneath the remaining cloud layer for just a couple of minutes, Charter Leader Pete Lerro called for our Conductor to stop the train ASAP and for the patrons to be ready to disembark. Within minutes we were off the train and hastily forming a photo line as the train backed up for what would probably be just one or two sunset run-bys. Then, almost on cue, the sun emerged below the cloud deck and presto.....some of the most beautiful sunset light I have ever seen on a railroad photo charter. Our train was able to perform two quick run-bys before the sun was gone, the first of which is the one you see here, right at MP 45. This shot really made the first day of our trip.
