Not really a beauty, but rather a beast, the brandnew Aem 940 # 001 from Alstom for the SBB on a test run from Riedtwil to Schönbühl SBB near Hindelbank. No "Pininfarina" design, but reduced to form follows function. The SBB ordered 47 of this PRIMA H4 bi-mode locomotives in 2015. They are powered by an electric traction system and diesel generators. The two power generators, coupled with an automatic start-stop system, enable a 5% reduction in fuel consumption compared with a single engine diesel locomotive. Maximum velocity is 120 km/h, weight 84 tons, power from overhead wire maximum 2000 kW and with both diesel motors 900 kW. It will be used in the large shunting yards Limmattal and Lausanne to replace the aged diesel Am 6/6 and electric Ee 6/6 II, and for track work trains of SBB infrastructure. For the test run, there is some equipment placed on the platform.
The worst of railroad design. Please, send me your entries / suggestions for the "Album of the ugly trains of the world" (past or present, paint scheme or shape).
