Remarks & Notes
Very sad, one of the most spectacular railroads worldwide, the 1 meter gauge line Chañaral - Llanta - Potrerillos, is shut down since march 2015, largely destroyed between Llanta and Chañaral by floods. If you search for the route on Google Earth today, you will only find sad remains, large sections have been buried, washed away, built over by new roads, and so on. In may 2012, GR12 # 401 (former EFE Dt 13001 from 1962) and # 91 (former Codelco, built in 1965) of Ferronor are pulling 23 empty sulphuric acid tank cars from Llanta through the spectacular gorge of the Salt River (Quebrada del Rio de la Sal) towards Potrerillos.
