Remarks & Notes
A Central of New Jersey Railroad survivor - built in 1894, this station is located in Elizabeth, NJ and was once host to the Central of New Jersey Railroad, the Reading and B&O trains but saw its last train on August 6, 1978. A long abandoned 4 tracked right of way was located on the opposite side and saw traffic running a near parallel route to the Pennsylvania Railroad between Baltimore and New York City, though it stopped short at Jersey City where passengers were forced to take a ferry the rest of the way. The mighty PRR had a direct connection via the Hudson Tunnels. That PRR line, now better known as Amtrak's NorthEast Corridor, traveled over the CNJ main at this site and would be visible to passengers exiting the station - perhaps making a transfer to the PRR itself.
