Remarks & Notes
BNSF 6725 (ES44C4) passes the historic Longmont Depot and crosses Main Street as it works its way through Longmont, Colorado. The depot was built in 1898 by the Colorado and Southern Railroad and now serves as an operations building for the BNSF Railroad. In the upper right you see the silos to the old Great Western Sugar Beet Mill, another landmark in Longmont. The mill was built in 1905 and processed sugar beets from the surrounding communities into refined sugar. In its heyday there was a small steam locomotive that moved cars into the plant. It closed in 1980 and now sits abandoned.
