Ah, fresh timber! The former East Branch & Lincoln Baldwin #5 delivers a couple of loads of fresh timber to the engine shop siding at the White Mountain Central Railroad. Lots of photo charters promise log trains.....but they seldom have any logs! Here at the White Mountain Central, logs are not in short supply. Not only does the railroad run in the White Mountain National Forest, but all of the steam engines here burn wood, so the process of cutting, sizing and drying logs for fuel is a continuous process during the tourist season. Like most of the engines here, EB&L #5 has local roots, having spent her career literally down the road from where she is now. Unlike most of the engines at Clark's, they've chosen to letter her for her original railroad, which makes for a pretty authentic log train. It gets even more authentic when you photograph her out on the line....but that's another picture for another day.
