Today at Cajon Summit, with the addition of the third BNSF track, it is much easier to see three trains passing each other at the same time, but back in 1982 it was much more difficult. Here UP 3722 and UP 3723 are in helper service as they assist a westbound UP train down the 3% south track, while a UP train works uphill on the north track. In the distance a Southern Pacific train approaches the summit on the Palmdale cutoff.
