Remarks & Notes
Just arrived at the Central Midland Railway's Lackland Yard is GMTX GP38 2003. Built in July 1970 as Pennsylvania-Reading Seashore Lines 2013, as evidenced by the extended cab front, which allowed for a second control stand for bi-directional operation. When the Pennsylvania Railroad, which, was merged with New York Central in 1968, the PRSL’s engines were lettered for Penn Central while retaining the same number. When the PC was merged with a bunch of other Northeastern railroad to form Conrail, this engine became CR 7373. Conrail became successful enough that most of it was split between CSX Transportation and Norfolk Southern in 1999, and this locomotive took on yet another identity: CSXT 1947. As an older locomotive, CSX eventually sold it off to Locomotive Leasing Partners, becoming LLPX 2015. LLPX sold it to GATX Locomotive Group and assigned it the number GMTX 2003 and in 2014 is was leased to the CMR. Its "basic black" paint job could use some sprucing up, and it appears that they have begun by painting the inside of the air horn trumpets a nice bright red. (Olivette, Missouri – October 3, 2014) Photographed on railroad property with permission and full Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
