Remarks & Notes 
An empty coal train heads to the mine near Huntly for another load to keep the steel mill furnaces going. This branch line originally served Waiuku but when the steel mill was built a new section was built to it and the section from Glenbrook to Waiuku was closed, later reopening as a heritage railway. The DL class is built by CNR Dalian, China

Trains on 3' 6" (1.067m) track from Whangarei to Bluff with virtually heritage rebuilt EMD and GE locomotives still the mainstay power. The network was privatized in 1990's and operated by Toll until 2008 when state owned KiwiRail was established.
