Adding a little variety in color, leased and pooled locomotives join forces to power F CP3821 16C (CP #382) back from the western plaines loaded with over 13,000 tons of grain divided amongst 102 covered hoppers. Utilizing BNSF's St. Paul Subdivision, the train is squeezing through the busy railroad funnel at Daytons Bluff beneath the shadow of downtown St. Paul alongside the Mississippi River. CP traffic, from both the St. Paul and Merriam Park Subs, BNSF, UP, TC&W and Amtrak all make a presence through here at this iconic Twin Cities railroad hotspot. The Canadian Pacific has trackage rights on BNSF through town between Coon Rapids and St. Croix, junction to the northern end of their River Subdivision south to La Crescent. Most CP trains however will enter and exit the BNSF at Soo Line JCT going to and from the Paynesville Sub on their main Canadian corridor. At Coon Rapids starts the BNSF's Hinckley Subdivision to which the CP has rights on the entirety of the line all the way north to Superior, WI, used only by a small handfull of trains.
