The Elevated Train. New Jersey Transit 4109 (GP40PH-2) leads train 1727 through the station in Paterson, NJ on the afternoon of May 10, 2020. The Erie Railroad Main Line has served the City of Paterson since 1832, but a grade crossing elimination project caused the building of this elevated structure and station between 1924-30. This engine has exclusively served the State of New Jersey commuter operations since being built by EMD in 1968, and while not native to the former Erie Railroad Main Line, it has spent its entire operating career within a little over 100 miles of this location. Its inclusion in NJT's 40th Anniversary heritage celebration and repaint to CNJ tribute was a welcomed decision.
