With a crowd of railfans gathered on Unity Island, this is the moment that they were waiting for. Without being PTC equipped, there was plenty of doubt that the pair of CMQ SD40-2F's on the front of CP 143 would be allowed to lead over CSX rails in Buffalo. Listening to the radio feeds, fans heard dispatch attempt to remedy this, but with no power and no wye in Welland, the barns stayed on the point and were accepted by CSX with a PTC waiver. Just before 9 AM on June 20th, the train crossed over the Niagara River on International Bridge from Ontario to New York.
