Remarks & Notes
Southern Pacific’s Bicentennial caboose, SP 1776, brings up the rear of a westbound freight at Hiland, the summit of SP’s crossing of Cajon Pass. Built in December 1966, this car was repainted for the American Bicentennial in November 1975. Nearly four years later, a lot of grime from trailing long trains for so long has given this once sparkling paint job a heavy patina of dirt. (Cajon Pass, California – 06/79)
