Remarks & Notes
Rolling through San Bernardino is BNSF Railway train Z-WSPLAC9-24A, a Priority UPS-LTL Intermodal train ticking off the final 65 miles of its trip from Willow Springs IL to Los Angeles. The WSPLAC has a lot of white JB Hunt containers, and on the adjacent mainline is an eastbound with a lot of white Hunt containers, and over in A yard are two cuts of well cars also full of white Hunt containers, making for a very bright scene. Meanwhile, in front of the Amtrak /Metrolink station new commuter train platforms are being installed, which will be followed by a new pedestrian overpass. Soon, this station will no longer be the end of the line for Metrolink train in San Bernardino, as the mains will extend another mile or so to the east, diverging from the BNSF’s main down at the stand of palm trees just beyond the station, reaching downtown on the old Santa Fe Redlands District. (This was also known as the Redlands Loop because it was just that, a loop from San Bernardino southeast to Redlands, then it curved to the north and west again, through Mentone, and back to "San Berdoo"). And how about the WSPLAC’s power? BNSF ES44C4 8320 leads a pair of Citirail ES44ACs (CREX 1309 and 1332), BNSF 7103 and another leased engine, GECX ET44C4 2026. Surges in traffic, causing railroads to lease power, create interesting consists! (San Bernardino, California – June 26, 2015)
