The area around Fort Madison offers alot of neat things to shoot from the ground and air. The Chillicothe Sub takes off from the BNSF depot and runs along the Mississippi River for a few miles before crossing it into Illinois. In those few miles the railroad passes this old ATSF depot and the city park full of interesting items. Also in the mix is the Hannibal Sub that parallels the Chilli Sub thru here for about a mile. A westbound (south) coal train making its way back up to speed after slowing for the 10 mph permanent slow order near the river bridge on the Hannibal Sub. This train is working from Burlington, IA, to West Quincy, MO, for the next crew change.
Sounds like work is under way to get this 1912 ex-Santa Fe depot back in service for an Amtrak Stop. Currently the depot is used by the North Lee County Historical Society for museum.
