For 45 minutes, Union Pacific train LOA32, the local heading from Anaheim to Santa Ana, could be heard blowing for the various grade crossings as it was switching cars at various south Anaheim warehouses and factories. Eventually, the remote mechanisms at CP College, named for its proximity (literally about four-feet!) to State College Boulevard – and, interestingly, the rails are stenciled "CP Stadium", so named because of its proximity to Angel Stadium – hummed to life as the switch connecting UP’s Santa Ana Industrial Lead to Metrolink’s Orange Sub, as well as aligning the derail on the UP trackage to allow the train to pass unimpeded. And in mere minutes, UP GP60 1150 rounded the curve to parallel the former Santa Fe mainline for 5.4 miles before the train transitioned to the mainline to get from Anaheim, through Orange, to Santa Ana, at which point it will switch back to UP’s branch.
