Remarks & Notes
Union Pacific's West Anaheim Yard (which, admittedly, isn't much of a yard, as there are only two tracks plus the leg of the wye, and they are used for locomotive storage) is the base from which UP's locals to Santa Ana, Huntington Beach and Orange – depending upon the day. All these locals are currently served by these two former Cotton Belt GP60s: UP 1105 (UP calls this one a "GP60E"), the former SSW 9648 (and later UP 1950) and 1083 (ex-UP 1953, née-SSW 9651). Both of these GPs were built in September 1989 as mainline power for hot intermodal trains – after 31 years, these are no longer mainline power. The locomotives assigned to these locals seem to change every few weeks, which keeps things interesting. (Anaheim, California – December 15, 2020) Photographed on railroad property with permission and full PPE.
