Passing through a massive cut that replaced a daylighted Sunset Tunnel, also known as the 1,928-foot Tunnel 2 between Guernsey and Wendover, are two BNSF coal trains meeting in the siding at Stokes, Wyoming, on June 21, 2020. Stokes siding was lengthened as part of the tunnel removal, finished in the spring of 1998. After the excavation process, BNSF used a concrete mixture sprayed to the steep sides of the cut to stabilize the soft earthen boundaries of the trench.
