Remarks & Notes
Union Pacific SW9 1848 was built in October 1953. This unassuming switcher would, in 1979, enter the railroad’s shops in Omaha NE to be rebuilt, rolling out as UP SW10 1848 when completed on August 2, 1979 – the first of 75 aging switchers to be remanufactured as this new model. Following the release of two more SW10s – UP 1839 and 1866 – the UP decided that these "new" locomotives deserved a new number series, and on March 13, 1980, UP SW10 1848 became UP SW10 1200, with 1839 becoming 1201 and 1866 being renumbered 1202.
