ONR unexpectedly ran a passenger train south of Cochrane for the first time since the demise of the Northlander (Sept 28, 2012) in the form of “test” train 999. The consist was made up of three coaches borrowed from the Polar Bear Express (Diner 750 and two 650 series), APU 203, and GP38-2 sisters 1809 and 1805, the latter having spent many a trip leading the Northlander in years gone by. Seen southbound here at Feronia, the train is only a few miles from North Bay making great time from Cochrane at only a hair over 5 hours... the train would drop off a few lucky passengers in North Bay before speeding back north on its return trip.
