Exactly 150 years after the inauguration ceremony of the first cogwheel mountain railway in Europe, from Vitznau on the shore of the Vierwaldstättersee (Lake Lucerne) to the Rigi (exactly Rigi Staffelhöhe), there was a celebration for invited guests with this steamtrain with car B # 5 (built 1871) and steamlocomotive H 1/2 # 7 (built in 1873 by SLM Winterthur). From the last compartment, federal councillor Simonetta Sommaruga is waving to the photographer. With her is CEO of the SBB Vincent Ducrot. The train is on a grade of 25.0 % below Freibergen, with Lake Lucerne, Bürgenstock, Buochserhorn and Stanserhorn in the background. It is known, that there was similar bad weather 150 years before....
Landscape photography is difficult due to the challenge of combining good light and good scenery. Good railroad photography enters another level of complexity since it requires the first two while there is a train in view.
