Southern had 76 GP35s. Most had AAR Type B trucks, but five purchased for Central of Georgia had Blombergs, as did two units numbered in low 2700s. Here, one of the CofG units is powering the Roanoke turn, which used trackage rights on WofA for a couple miles, hence the WofA 7 as train id.
Photos taken in the Deep South--primarily Alabama and Georgia--from the 1970s to the early 2000s. Featured railroads include the ICG, the West Point Route, SCL, Southern, Frisco, and even KCS.
Selected photos of locomotives, passenger cars, and rolling stock in the Southern's livery as well as other assets once belonging to or used by the Southern.
