Remarks & Notes
Continuing on our trip to western New York and southern Ontario in October 1998, we left the DL&W and the rain in Depew and headed west to the Ontario Southland’s new, at the time, operation of the Guelph Junction Railway. So many of the train chasing trips my father and I took in the 1980s and 1990s were built around chasing CP Rail MLWs in Vermont and Canada, but the CP Rail had operated it’s last MLW in the Summer of 1998. The day’s power, a former CP Rail RS-18u in patched CP Rail paint, helped ease the sting of this loss. Here, Ontario Southland #180, former CP Rail #1860 and, originally, RS-18 #8769, leads the train northbound at the First Line Nassagaweya Road crossing in Milton, Ontario. Ted Steinbrenner Photo.
