A little sun in Heavener. With just about 90 minutes remaining before her 9AM departure for Shreveport, LA, CPKC's elegant Hudson #2816 "Empress" catches a little sun in the yard at Heavener, OK on what would otherwise end up being a dark and cloudy day. The locomotive was undergoing morning servicing as I managed to capture this view over the high fencing surrounding the yard, thanks to a kind, fellow photographer who just happened to have an 8 foot step ladder, that he let me borrow. The run this day from Heavener to Shreveport would be my only opportunity to see the "Empress" during CPKC's "Final Spike Steam Tour" from Calgary, AB to Mexico City, MX, one of the longest mainline steam excursions that I can remember.
