In a railroad world dominated by GE wide-nosed six-axle power for the past 35 or so years, it is always nice to encounter something a bit different. I was stoked to find GP30s and SD40-2s as local power in McCook NE, but after some of that power was rotated to Lincoln, I wasn't complaining about seeing another wide-nosed GE, as this time is was a four-axle unit – a former Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe Dash 8-40BW, BNSF 527 (ex-ATSF 527). Of course it would have been better in ATSF's "Superfleet" scheme, but having been built in October 1990, that red and silver would look pretty tough after thirty-five years. I originally caught this locomotive in 1997. (McCook, Nebraska – July 22, 2024)
