Remnant of the BIRMINGHAM SPECIAL. Operated south of Alexandria, Va., as an intermodal with additional power and intermodal cars being added in Alexandria. The N&W segment, which lasted until Amtrak, actually was able to be dropped because of N&W joining Amtrak.
