These cars are used by railways and their customers to ensure the accuracy of the scales used to weigh rail cars.

I had no idea these old girls were still kicking around in true BN colors. I don't recall the specifics anymore, but I believe there's a very specific authorisation process for making any repairs to a scale test car, especially when in transit; they have to be almost exactly the weight specified on the side (82000 pounds in this case); and placed at a certain location in the consist. I could be wrong on all counts...all the more reason I need to find that all-telling BN ETT book of mine....
